Naomi’s Project 1: Geometric Daisy

I constructed a geometric daisy using the following steps:

1) First, I made the center point of the daisy by just putting a dot in the middle of the paper.
2) Second, I used a compass to make a circle around that point. (Put the point on the point and used the pencil to draw a circle)
3) Third, I put the pencil of the compass on the dot in the middle of the first circle and the point of the compass anywhere on the outside of the first circle to draw another circle.
4) Fourth, I put two dots to mark the points of intersection between the middle circle and the new circle.
5) Then, I drew more circles, by putting the point of the compass on one of those two points of intersection, and the pencil on the center of the original (middle) circle.
6) Then, I repeated step 4 and 5 until I got a daisy...
7) Then, I colored the daisy, and decorated it with different shapes (triangles and hexagons) that could be found inside it.
Extra step: You could also repeat step 4 and 5 going outwards to make a field of daisies.

Here is my work:

Elise’s Geometric Daisy

Here is a photo of my geometric daisy:

We constructed the geometric daisy by following these steps:
1.  Draw a circle with a compass.
2.  Align the compass so that the point is on the edge of the circle and the pencil is in the center of the circle.  Draw another circle.
3.  Now put the point on one of the two points where the two circles intersected and the pencil in the middle.  Draw another circle.
4.  Repeat step 3 until it looks like this:

5.  Color your daisy.  Or, if you like, continue with repeating step 3 to make a field of daisies.  The final daisy should be colored.

Elise’s Introduction

My math name is Elise Plane.  I am in 7th grade and I joined Math Seminar to get a head start on 9th grade math.  I plan to double up in 9th grade, it will be a lot easier if the material is familiar. 🙂
